Hi Reader,
Let me ask you a question.
Have you ever been in traffic and been frustrated or stressed wondering how long it would take to get through it?
Alternatively, have you ever been in traffic and been calm and had faith it would eventually pass? Maybe you caught up on a call you needed to make or listened to a favorite podcast.
If you’re like most, you’ve experienced both.
Both circumstances were the same, but you experienced them differently. Right?
In other words, the circumstance --think traffic-- didn’t determine your experience of it. You defined your experience of the circumstance based on your interpretation and your state of mind at the time. You did this whether you were aware of it or not.
Lately what I have noticed is how quickly we are to allow our circumstances to define us instead of us defining our circumstances.
The uncertainty of the election, the continuation of the pandemic, financial struggle, kids not going back to school, people not doing what you think they should --these are all circumstances that can feel heavy.
But true leadership -- leadership from the inside out (instead of from the outside in) -- means we define the circumstances. And that’s what my newest podcast episode: 4 Ways to Self Lead in Difficult Times, is all about.
When you see that the circumstances do not have not power over you, you can lead more powerfully in the middle of your circumstances.
You can actually be at peace in the midst of chaos -- just like in the traffic!
You and I both know, getting angry at the traffic, doesn’t make the traffic go away.
Hear me out. Being at peace doesn’t mean pretending the circumstance doesn’t exist or that you deny what you're feeling. Quite the opposite.
It means defining it so that you are in the right state of mind to have power over it and affect change rather than it having power over you.
I explain this more in this latest episode along with:
Bottom line: This episode will show you how to navigate your emotions and increase your self-leadership in order to transform and thrive in the months to come. Click here to listen to the podcast.
Our self-leadership is needed before we lead others. In other words...
Be well. Then be the light.
Warmly,
Rita
